Well-chosen hardware the client had installed was programmed into one working app in a single day.

Project overview
This Doncaster project came to us in an unusual position: the client had already bought and installed the hardware themselves. Candeo dimmers, a Unifi network, Heatmiser underfloor heating, Mitsubishi AC, and Unifi CCTV cameras were all in place, and all of it was genuinely well specified. What was missing was the programming. The client knew they wanted Home Assistant running the show but didn't have the time, or the inclination, to sit down and configure it themselves.

Scope of work
Because the hardware side of the project was already handled, our scope was narrower and more specific than a typical Luxeia installation, but no less involved in practice:
- Configuring Home Assistant from the ground up to bring every existing device into one working system.
- Integrating Candeo dimmer modules for full lighting control throughout the home.
- Setting up and securing the client's existing Unifi network as the backbone for the whole system.
- Bringing the Heatmiser underfloor heating system into Home Assistant for scheduling and remote control.
- Integrating the Mitsubishi AC units for full climate control alongside the heating.
- Connecting the Unifi CCTV system so cameras could be viewed and managed from the same app as everything else.
- Fitting additional LED strip lighting in the main bedroom and bathroom, agreed on-site once time allowed.
- Handing over the client's free mobile dashboard, fully built and ready to use from day one.
The challenge
The challenge on this project wasn't physical installation, it was making sure a full smart home's worth of programming could be completed properly within a single day on-site. That's an ambitious timeline for integrating five separate hardware ecosystems, lighting, networking, heating, air conditioning, and CCTV, into one cohesive Home Assistant setup, and it only works if the groundwork has been done properly beforehand.
That's why hardware choice mattered so much here. Home Assistant's strength is that it can talk to almost anything, but "almost anything" doesn't mean every device is equally easy to integrate. Budget or poorly documented smart devices can eat up hours of a programming day just getting a single integration to behave reliably, time that then isn't available for the rest of the system. Before agreeing to take the job on, we needed to be confident the client's choices, Candeo, Unifi, Heatmiser, and Mitsubishi, were all devices we knew well and had a strong track record of integrating cleanly. If the client had gone with cheaper, less established alternatives, this wouldn't have been a viable one-day job, and we'd have said so upfront.
Our solution
With the hardware confirmed as suitable, our programming team committed to a single day on-site to deliver a fully working system. We started with the Candeo dimmers, setting up lighting control and scenes throughout the property, before moving through the Unifi network configuration, Heatmiser heating integration, Mitsubishi AC control, and finally the Unifi CCTV system, all brought together under one Home Assistant instance rather than left as separate apps for the client to juggle.
The team worked through the build efficiently enough that there was spare time left in the day. Rather than leave that time unused, and with the client's agreement, we fitted additional LED strip lighting in the main bedroom and bathroom, work that hadn't been part of the original scope. Because we had the time to configure and test it there and then, it meant the client ended the day with everything, including the new addition, fully signed off and working, rather than needing a follow-up visit to close out a small extra job.
As with every Luxeia installation, the client also received our free mobile dashboard as standard. For a system this size, spanning lighting, heating, air conditioning, and CCTV, building a clean, usable interface from scratch is genuinely time-consuming work. Handing that over already built meant the client could start using his smart home properly from the moment we left, without spending his own evenings and weekends designing dashboards.
Results
What started the day as a well-equipped but unconfigured collection of smart devices ended the day as a fully functioning, single-app smart home, covering lighting, heating, climate, and security, plus new LED lighting in two rooms that wasn't even part of the original brief. The client had everything signed off and working before we left the property.
