How we approach it

Home Assistant is open-source software that ties every part of your home into one system. On its own it is a toolkit. What turns it into a dependable smart home is the design work around it: the right hub hardware, a properly planned network, sensible naming, tidy automations and documentation someone else could pick up in five years' time.

We start by understanding how you live in the house, then choose hardware that suits the building. In a new build or full renovation that often means wired lighting control and data points; in a finished period home it usually means retrofit devices that need no new cabling. Either way, everything ends up in one app and on wall panels where you want them.

Because the system runs locally, it does not stop working when the broadband drops or a manufacturer changes its cloud service. Remote access is still available when you are away, and it is set up securely as part of the installation.

Can you take over a Home Assistant system I set up myself?

Yes. We regularly inherit DIY setups. We review what is there, keep what works, and rebuild what does not into a clean, documented system. Our Edinburgh case study is an example.

Do I need a subscription?

No. Home Assistant itself is free and runs in your home. Remote access through Nabu Casa is optional, and it is included in all of our aftercare plans.

Who owns the system?

You do. The hardware is yours and the configuration is documented, so you are never tied to us or to a single manufacturer.
